Super Smash Con, the Super Major tournament and convention for all things Smash has gotten a new name for a variety of reasons.
Surprisingly, this was not a legal move to avoid a Nintendo C&D but rather a choice to better reflect the spirit of the con.
We wanted some level of continuity from “Super Smash Con” (and we knew the carry-over word wouldn’t be ‘Smash’), but also something that reflected the gravity, scale, and hype of the largest Smash event in the world. We thought a Supernova embodied that perfectly, representing the explosive energy that is so unique to the Smash Community.
It’s also a nod to NoVa (Northern Virginia), the region where we’ve hosted our event since 2015!
