Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics announced

the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was announced. However, it turns out that this collection will also be releasing for the PlayStation 4 and Steam. Oddly, it’s not available for the PlayStation 5, but the PlayStation 5 is backwards compatible with the PlayStation 4 anyhow. It will also not be releasing for Xbox which isnt a great sign for Microsoft’s current console woes.

The first game that’s part of the collection is X-Men: Children of the Atom. Though this is just a fighting game that mostly features X-Men characters, it’s the game that technically started of the Marvel vs. Capcom crossover series considering that Street Fighter’s Akuma is accessible as a secret fighter.

Marvel Super Heroes is also featured in the collection. This is a fighting game in which players go at it exclusively as Marvel characters, which includes a number of villains like Thanos, Magneto, and Juggernaut.

X-Men vs. Street Fighter is the first true crossover that paved the way for the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Eventually, this would evolve in to the next game that’s part of the collection, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. There is one character missing from this version and its Noriamaro, a Japanese comedian who is a joke character only available in the original Japanese release. He has been cut from the poster as well.

Then come the big 2, Marvel vs Capcom and Marvel vs Capcom 2. The games that made Marvel into Mahvel. Theres nothing I can say here that hasnt already been said elsewhere and better but these games set the standard for what a team fighting game would play like and what a crossover game should look like.

Last in the collection is The Punisher beat’em up. This is a real rarity as it has only gotten rereleased once via 1up arcade. Up until now there has been no console port of any kind for this beloved yet obscure Capcom Beat’em up.
